A/N: In an attempt to keep me sane, I have decided that in the future, my reviews will decide which story I update first. This will come into effect when I’ve announced this in all of my stories, except for maybe my RPS fics, I never know when I’m going to update one of them, they’re very spontaneous. Anyway, on with the story! Additional notes at end.

“Why are we going to Tortuga?”

Jack inwardly groaned at the sound of his companion’s voice. He desperately wished he could just kill her and be done with it. However, he couldn’t sail the ship by himself, although he was tempted to try. It wasn’t as if the girl did much work anyway.

“We’ve been over this before. I need a crew to go after Barbossa. Without one, we’re as good as dead,” Jack stated exasperatedly.

Elizabeth looked at Jack suspiciously. “Is that the real reason? Or are you going to just pick up a crew, leave me on that hellish island, and forget all about Will?”

Jack reacted so fast that Elizabeth didn’t see him move. One minute he was just standing there, the next, he had his cutlass to her throat.

“I would never forget about Will,” he ground out vehemently. “You are the only one aboard this ship who has cast aside his well-being.”

Her eyes filled with both sorrow and anger. “Do you think I wanted to? I had to get those awful pirates to leave?”

Jack’s eyes flashed in rage. “Do you think that’s all you’ve done to him? You also took his medallion from him eight years ago! If you hadn’t, I could have ensured that that accursed piece of gold was as far away from him as possible so that if Barbossa and his horrid crew had felt its call, he would be in no danger. But now, thanks to you, I do not want to imagine what will be done to him!” Resisting his urge to throttle the girl, he turned on his heel and stalked away.

Will felt a mixture of revulsion and fear well up within him as Barbossa sat on the edge of the bed and leaned over him, balancing himself by propping an arm up on the other side of him. He dangled the golden medallion in front of his eyes.

“Do you know what this is?” Barbossa asked.

Will did not reply. He knew exactly what it was, but he felt that if Barbossa kept talking, he wouldn’t have to resort to other…activities…for entertainment.

At Will’s silence, the mutinous captain continued. “It’s Aztec gold… one of 882 identical pieces they delivered in a stone chest to Cortés himself. Blood money paid to stem the slaughter he wreaked upon them with his armies. But the greed of Cortés was insatiable. So the heathen gods placed upon the gold…a terrible curse. Any mortal that removes but a single piece from that stone chest shall be punished for eternity.” Barbossa looked at Will for any comments, but Will remained silent.

“At first,” Barbossa continued, “I didn’t believe it. Buried on an Island of Dead what cannot be found except for those who know where it is. Find it, we did. There be the chest. Inside be the gold. And we took ‘em all. We spent ‘em and traded ‘em and frittered ‘em away on drink and food and pleasurable company. The more we gave ‘em away, the more we came to realize…the drink would not satisfy, food turned to ash in our mouths, and all the pleasurable company in the world could not slake our lust. We are cursed men, Mr. Turner. Compelled by greed, we were, but now we are consumed by it. There is one way we can end our curse. All the scattered pieces of the Aztec gold must be restored and the blood repaid. Thanks to ye, we have the final piece and the final blood.”

“You mean to kill me then?” Will felt almost relieved. If Barbossa meant to kill him to break the curse, there was no way that he could do anything to him after the curse was broken.

Barbossa must have seen the relief in his eyes, though, because when he spoke, he made it all to clear that he could and would. “Oh no, my boy, you will live.” He cupped Will’s face in his hand none too gently and chuckled when he felt a shudder run through the boy. “However, by the time I’m done with you, you’ll wish I had killed you.”

NOTES:

Sorry it’s so short. I was going to make it longer, but I don’t have any control over where a chapter ends.

Thanks to:

LadyRonin - So glad you like it! I know that I took a lot of time getting this out and I apologize.

Yana5 - You know I’m going to make poor Will suffer far more before Jack saves him. (Laireloth: Can’t we just let the beautiful couple be happy? Agarwaenloth: NO!)

DawnAurilain - That’s a little demanding, asking for a sequel before I’m a tenth of the way into this story. But I may write one once it’s all said and done.

Skull Bearer - I’m on your favorites list? I feel so honored! (Athmegil: Get on with it! Agarwaenloth: FINE!) Thank you!

CJ-Cj - Jack will come to loathe Elizabeth, more so than he already does. ::evil grin:: And Will shall suffer far more at the hands of Barbossa. (Morelen: You know, you’re giving away hints. Agarwaenloth: I’m torturing them into guessing what I have planned. Laireloth: That’s not nice. Agarwaenloth: Who asked you?)

Legolas19 - I know what you mean. Legolas is another character that is made to suffer a lot. I’m not tired of Will, Orlando, or Paris suffering yet, but I tend to want Aragorn to suffer more and more lately. (Morelen: You know, you are assuming that the Legolas suffering referred to is automatically meaning a pairing of Aragorn and Legolas. Agarwaenloth: Isn’t that the only pairing that there is? Morelen: No, it’s not. There are also more pairings than Viggo/Orlando, Jack/Will, and Hector/Paris. Agarwaenloth: I know there are more pairings than Hector/Paris! I read them quite frequently! Morelen: And the problem with Aragorn and Legolas is Arwen. Agarwaenloth: Aragorn doesn’t love her, he love Legolas. She stole Glorfindel’s horse in the movie. Morelen: Ah, but didn’t Legolas still it in the animated version? Agarwaenloth: Shut up!) uh…sorry about that.

Julie - I’m so happy that you liked the story. I’m sorry about the wait, but here’s the next chapter!

Yaoi Angel - You did inspire me to write more, but when I saw your review, I was tired and I said that I would update tomorrow. Unfortunately, tomorrow took a month to get here. (Morelen: And she calls me lazy. Agarwaenloth: You are lazy, why do you think I kept procrastinating? Your personality took over!)

katie_k - Are you…okay? I hope you haven’t died yet… (Laireloth: Look what you’ve done! Agarwaenloth: Well, you could have taken over and updated!)

Eci_Frog - Wonderful! You are learning self-control! Thanks for the review!

MustIBeAMalfoy - Who says Jacky-poo is going to be able to save our Willy-poo?….. Who am I kidding? I’m a sucker for happy endings…this one may just take a while to come into effect.

leann - Patience is a virtue. (Athmegil: One that you don’t possess. Agarwaenloth: Shut up! Laireloth: Honestly, stop arguing with yourself, people are going to start thinking you’re crazy.)

*sea-spirit* - Of course I’m going to torture Will! All the while, torturing Jack. And then I’ll torture Will again, and then Jack again. (Laireloth: Isn’t it a little strange that you are obsessed with torturing these men that you love? Agarwaenloth: ::considers:: No.)

Sarkywoman - Oh, I have a feeling that this voyage will be unbearable for the both of them.

x necromancer x - I think I went beyond evil by making you wait for so long. I’m sorry. (Morelen: Why do you lie? Agarwaenloth: Shut up!)

LoneDragon - What did you do? Read the first chapter and then jump to conclusions?

Glorry - I’m touched. I truly am. That’s the biggest compliment you could have given me! ::hugs back:: And that German whatever it was, was really sweet. My translation of it wasn’t really that great, but I caught ingenious in it, I think, and I’m speechless. Thank you so much!

Yana - I’ve read this review before… You’re Yana5 on ff.net, aren’t you? If so, thank you for leaving two reviews! That’s sweet!
